Diversity and Endemism of Southern African Gekkonids Linked with the Escarpment Has Implications for Conservation Priorities

چکیده

South Africa is recognised for its high reptile diversity and endemism, specifically among lizards. Phylogenetic diversity, richness can have clear implications or raise important questions in a range of fields, most urgently conservation. Among squamate reptiles, these indices are very commonly associated with temperatures topographic heterogeneity. Indeed, mountainous biogeography has been critical driver the radiation family Gekkonidae within subregion. Here, we assess species richness, endemism inhabiting Africa, Lesotho, Eswatini, accounting phylogenetic relationships. We also employ CANAPE method to identify regions that neo- and/or paleoendemics. Southern African gekkonids appear be diverse show levels three Africa: northwestern Richtersveld, escarpment running west southeast, northeastern Limpopo province. Implications conservation priorities discussed.

Diversity and distribution patterns of Solanaceae in Iran: Implications for conservation and habitat management with emphasis on endemism and diversity in SW Asia

The increasing rate of irreversible damages to natural habitats has reinforced the need for gathering biodiversity fundamental data to conservation. Priority setting is the most important step in protection programs. Solanaceae as the the one of important economic families of eudicots distributed throughout North and South America, Europe, Africa, Asia, Australia, and the South Pacific. Up to n...

Integrating Phylogenetic Diversity, Complementarity, and Endemism for Conservation Assessment

Posadas et al.’s (2001) analysis of conservation priority setting for southern South America highlights the fact that “conservation of biodiversity requires knowledge of its history.” In addressing this need, they argue that conservation of “evolutionary potential and phylogenetically rare taxa” requires integration of “phylogenetic” diversity with other factors, including complementarity and e...

Distribution patterns and diversity of Onosma in Iran: with emphasis on endemism conservation and distribution pattern in SW Asia

Geobotanical assessment of taxa with a high percentage of richness and endemism plays an important role on conservation plans. South-West Asia is one of the main biodiversity centers of the genus Onosma (Boraginaceae) comprising a high rate of species richness and endemism in Iran. Due to existing threatened factors to habitats and lack of sufficient data on conservation and distribution patter...

Evaluation of genetic diversity and conservation priorities for Egyptian chickens

In this study, 21 microsatellite markers were used to genotype 196 Egyptian local chickens obtained from Fayoumi (n = 35), Dandarawy (n = 30), Baladi (n = 29), Sinai (n = 30), El-Salam (n = 36), and Golden Montazah (n = 36) strains. The results were compared to two pure commercial chicken populations reared in Japan-White Leghorn (n = 42) and Rhode Island Red (n = 43). A total of 162 alleles we...
